about

The Slip (aka Two Finger Suicide after a hippie band called The Slip sic'ed a legal team their way) was an inspiring power trio rising from Gainesville FL's midtown Common Grounds collective music scene of the late 1990's/early 2000's. This raw 4-track analog recording catches them live at Common Grounds on October 23, 2002.

Official press kit bio follows:

"Our story begins in the year 2000, on a balmy September night in Gainesville, Florida. There was a wild and crazy party. With free liquor and stuff, and a jazz band on the porch. As they sipped their drinks, Sarah Zachrich and Andrea Harrell had no idea that a musical meeting of minds was fixin' to take place.
After the band got too sloshed to play any more, a revolving impromptu jam session began. First one drunk guy would play the drums while another drunk guy played guitar and a guy who was completely wasted sang. Then another drunk guy would play... you get the idea. Andrea was eventually convinced to play some of her songs, and since everyone else was too damn drunk, Sarah figured, what the hell, and sat down behind the drumset.
Despite never having played together before and being really out of practice, it was as if a light shone down from heaven (or maybe it was just the sun coming up). After playing until they realized they were too drunk, our heroines got into a discussion about the lack of good chick bands in town. Hey... maybe they should start one...!
They recruited bassist Melissa Fitz and started practicing. After the band came up with a name (they were originally known jokingly as Two Finger Suicide...you figure it out), they wrote some songs, recorded them, and played some shows. Then Melissa up and moved to Chicago, and The Slip had to get a new bass player. Mary Holden had never played bass before, but she was willing to learn--and learn she did. The band made a triumphant live comeback, recorded an EP and have been playing as many shows as possible."
